Cayuga Area College/Career Night Scheduled for October

Staff Report / FLXlocal.org

The Cayuga Counselors Association, in collaboration with the Auburn High School Counseling Department, is hosting the Cayuga Area College/Career Night on Thursday, October 24, 2024. The event will take place at Auburn High School from 6 to 7:30 p.m., with a Financial Aid Presentation beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Approximately 90 representatives will be present from various institutions, including four-year and two-year private and public colleges, non-profit and government agencies, military branches, and employers in fields such as law enforcement, public safety, civil service, trade unions, industry, and the medical field. These representatives will provide information on admissions, programs of study, costs, financial aid, athletics, campus life, military career options, and job opportunities.

The event primarily targets 11th and 12th graders but is suitable for college-bound students of all ages and their parents. Representatives will be located in the gymnasium in an arena-style setting. Students are encouraged to research colleges of interest prior to attending to make the most of their time at the event.

Additional workshops will be offered during College Night:

- A financial aid workshop conducted by Ms. Mary Brooke Oropallo from Cayuga Community College at 5:30 p.m. in the AHS auditorium.

- A workshop on Disability Services at the college level by Dr. Karen Grella and Ms. Jeanne Shaw from the Cayuga Community College Office of Accessibility Resources, scheduled for 6:15 p.m. in Room E215.

- A college athletic eligibility requirements workshop by AHS school counselor Mr. Steve Crosby at 6:30 p.m. in Room E209.

Students can access their SCOIR accounts to prepare for the event and may schedule appointments with Mrs. Marinelli in the Counseling Office for assistance. All students and parents interested in post-secondary education are strongly encouraged to attend.
