Tractor Trailer Rollover Accident in Yates County

On October 11, 2024, at approximately 11:40 PM, Yates County Deputies responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer at State Route 54a and Guyanoga Road in the Town of Jerusalem. The vehicle, driven by Alexei Vlad Plavan, a 66-year-old resident of Virginia, was reported to have crashed, rolled over, and collided with gas pumps at a nearby business.
Upon arrival, deputies found the tractor trailer on its side with gas leaking and downed electric wires in the vicinity. Initial investigations indicated that the driver was traveling east on Italy Hill at an unsafe speed and failed to stop at the intersection with Guyanoga Road. The truck then continued onto State Route 54a, where it attempted to turn and subsequently rolled over.
Plavan suffered head injuries and was treated before being transported to Soldiers and Sailors Hospital. Cleanup efforts in the area are currently being conducted by the New York State Department of Transportation and other emergency services.
The Yates County Sheriff's Office saw involvement from multiple agencies, including Yates OEM, New York State Police, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Yates County Ambulance, Branchport Keuka Park Fire Department, Dresden Fire Department, and NYSEG.
Charges against Plavan are pending as the investigation continues.
